Welcome to Livermore Literary Arts!
Art -- including Poetry -- is an essential part of any thriving community. It lifts the spirit and raises the collective consciousness of its citizens.
Hi, I'm Charan Sue Wollard, Poet Laureate for the City of Livermore. Please call me Cher, everyone does.
I'm a poet, a fiction writer, a journalist, an artist, a student of spirituality, a Realtor, a wife, mother and grandmother. I've called Livermore, CA, home since 1976.
And now I am very excited to embark on this new adventure as web master for LivermoreLit.com.
This website is open to all lovers of the literary arts. It features news and a calendar of literary events for Livermore and nearby communities, information about other cultural arts groups, and a forum to discuss literature, tout your favorite new poem or book, or seek advice from other writers.
The city's Poet Laureate program was instituted in 2005 to support poetry for all its residents. The first poet laureate was Connie Post, who completed her second term on June 30, 2009. I plan to continue the wonderful work begun by Connie and add a few elements of my own -- such as this website.
We are fortunate that Livermore boasts such a wealth of artistic and cultural ventures: a symphony orchestra, an opera company, a Shakespeare troupe, two art associations, numerous galleries, the Bothwell Arts Center and Theater, two annual literary anthologies, the outdoor Wente Winery theater and the 500-seat Bankhead Center for the Performing Arts. Plans are in place for a future downtown 1,800-seat performing arts theater.
Located in the heart of Livermore Valley Wine Country in the beautiful Bay Area, our city is also home to two national Laboratories.
With all that going on, there's always plenty to write about!
Yours in Poetry,
Cher
